Antique Farm Equipment Treasures on a Wisconsin Farm

The storing of forage in a silo to cure into ensilage became popular in the United States in the s. To mechanize that process, the stationary silo filler was invented. Silo fillers started out as complicated machines which chopped bundles of green corn plants and piled the chopped corn into stacks to be elevated into silos. Eventually, stationary silo fillers were modified and simplified to a single-stage machine which chopped corn into the appropriate size and then blew the ensilage up a large pipe for distribution inside a silo, all in one step.

This was the stationary silo filler as it is most commonly known.

I hope I do not insult anyone with my most but I need help dating my Farmall. Here are the numbers I could readRRRR.

C-Farmall well here she is. New paint, muffler, seat cover, and decals. She starts and runs and works like a new tractor. I drove her up to the house this morning and my wife said she liked it, I nearly went into shock. I believe I’m going to put the ford up for sale, anybody interested? On checking, someone in the past has put the radiator from a Super C and had to use the risers under the fuel tank from a Super C to make the hood fit, so that is why ya’ll thought it may be a Super.

C-Farmall Hey, Gunfighter, on the Super C with the fast hitch, do the lift arms on the back have the linkage from the lift arms on the sides under the fuel tank, or is there a Hyd cyl on the rear to raise the hitch. I am in the process of putting the 3PH on and want to use the existing lift. I also have the lines that come from the hyd pump to the valve that has another valve so that you can have remote hyd such as for a loader, but I would rather not use it for the 3PH if I can use 2 linkage bars from the front lift to raise the 3PH.

If you can post some pics of how the fast hitch works on yours I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks, Nat , C-Farmall 2pt Fast Hitch has its own cylinder on the back. On the SC hydraulic block in front of the battery there is a valve on the right side same side as the hydro lines from the pump that operates the fast hitch.

The Right Red Tractor

C-Farmall Well, I have worked on it some this week, and am proud to say she wears a new coat of paint. I had to fix a couple dents and make some brackets for the nose piece. I bought it with the sheet metal next to it and didn’t really pay much attention then, but when I started to put the nose on the holes didn’t line up. The nose fits and looks fine till you stoop down and look in the hand crank hole and see that it doesn’t line up with the crankshaft.

I have the decals , muffler, and seat cover on order from Valu-bilt, should be here next week, and I picked up the steel for the 3PH this morning. I looked at it real good and the 3PH is going to be simple to build.

Antique International / Farmall Tractor: Farmall Regular

If the experience of our family is any clue, the Farmall H seems to occupy a unique position in the history of tractor-powered farming. However, following the war, and especially into the s, they seem to have been very quickly replaced by tractors which could handle three-bottom plows and four-row cultivators. Production figures seem to support this conclusion, indicating that production of the H fell off after

This is a hand throttle off of a Farmall “H” tractor we parted out. It should fit Farmall M, Super M, H or Super H tractors. Keep your tractor in it’s original condition.

For a lot of years the Farmall M was in the big leagues–one of the few tractors with the power, capability, styling, and popularity to become a lasting symbol of modern farming. It was one of the most successful tractors of all time, which has two implications for current sales: One, lots of people still really like them, which drives the price up. Two, many of the , or so that were built are still around, which drives the price down. A non-running “parts tractor” might go for just a few hundred; a restored “show tractor” might go for three or four thousand or even more, especially if it’s a Super MTA or Super MTA Diesel, the last versions of the M.

Overall condition of the sheet metal is another big variable, with the front grille being especially likely to be bent up or missing the little insert near the bottom. Even if that insert is gone, check to see if the bottom bar of the grille itself is still there–the inserts are readily available from aftermarket suppliers, but if that lower bar has been cut out you’ll need more than the insert to fix it.

If the gauges, lights, and starting and charging systems work, it’ll save you the cost of repairing or replacing them later. Most Ms have an internal “Lift-All” hydraulic system for tractor-mounted implements like cultivators or a loader. An auxiliary hydraulic valve was available as an option to provide two-way pressure for a remotely-mounted hydraulic cylinder, such as might be mounted on a trailing implement like a disk or brush hog. Auxiliary hydraulic valve Some Super Ms built in or 54 and regular Ms with after-market equipment–see below have an engine-driven hydraulic pump, as opposed to a transmission-driven pump.

That means hydraulic implements can be operated independently of the transmission clutch, which is a nice feature.

The letter series Farmalls never had a factory 3point hitch and their 2 point ‘ fast hitch” didn’t come out untill later series tractors. Their are a couple of companies that make aftermarket 3 point hitches but I am building one of my own design. These pictures are of my first step. I removed the stock drawbar and left the axle clamp brackets on the tractor. I used 2 pieces of heavy 5×6 angle iron to bolt to the axle clamps.

One of the short line companies mentioned in that article was the Horn Manufacturing Company, manufacturers of the famous Horn-draulic loader. The Horn Company story is one that needs elaboration. The couple had six children. These partitions were a handy way of temporarily dividing large gymnasiums for practice sessions and physical education courses in schools across the nation. The Horn Manufacturing Company expanded its line of products to include folding gymnasium bleachers and folding room partitions.

The Horn Company manufactured their products in two Quonset buildings that they built on a acre site west of Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Re: dating farmall H without serial numbers in reply to K Wassell, Chassis serial and engine serial don’t match, but they may be close. Best way is to look at the casting codes in the form of 1*8*J, or month*day*year.

The Farmall “A” from International Harvester was a reliable and affordable workhorse in its day. Here, an Advance Rumely hp steam-engine tractor was certainly a formidable piece of equipment, but not very practical. The sound is very impressive. What sold me on my first old farmstead weren’t so much the overgrown fields begging to produce again, the sucker-filled but still-bearing fruit trees, or the antique stone house and barn The tractor was a gorgeous little Farmall “A,” its paint shiny bright red, original decals intact, the huge lugged tires barely worn, and the muffler just rusted enough to look serious.

Lined up behind it along the back of the barn were a stake-bed trailer on an old Ford axle, an antique snow plow, a single-bottom land plow, a 3-gang disc harrow, a fertilizing corn drill, and a sickle-bar mower with a wooden crank arm — all of them in perfect condition. And in the toolbox in the footwell of the tractor was the original owner’s manual The “A” had a new-looking Exide battery under the seat, plus a generator and starter motor, but I was all eager to try the crank.

Modern Earthmoving Marvels, author Frank Raczon dug up the dirt and constructed the only modern history of the world’s heaviest machinery. So many things differentiate the Caterpillar brand from its competitors that it can be difficult to know where to begin. From its trademark Caterpillar Yellow to its tradition of making the most rock-solid products on earth, everything about the Caterpillar name is synonymous with the world’s toughest machines.

In fact, the company’s success has led to it being used by economists as a bellwether for the state of the economy as a whole.

When I bought a new tractor inI bought the 2-point adapter. A loader turns a tractor into a versatile, powerful workhorse. Telescopic stabilizers flex end lower links make it easy to hook up attachments. Farmall Implements The hydraulically operated and controlled three-point hitch used the draft of the mounted tool to moderate the depth of the tool and therefore the load on the tractor automatic depth control or draft control.

Coupling, uncoupling, depth control and leveling of implements could all be done from the tractor seat. If a farmer needed to use a different brand of implement, an adaptation kit—which were typically clumsy, ill-fitting, or unsafe—was sometimes needed. It covers everything from hitching it up to making settings and adjustments, and actual field use.

Ammeter Gauge The adjustable, contoured seat and infinitely tilting and telescoping steering wheel let you find your own fit. During the s, it was so advantageous and popular that other manufacturers were compelled to come up with competing hitch improvements that could also be pitched as proprietary “systems” with at least some of the features of the Ferguson system such as quick, easy hitching and unhitching, implement raising and lowering controlled from the tractor farmall a implement how to hook up, and treating the tractor and implement as a unit rather than an articulated pair.

I have an actual tape showing one square dance, and dealer instructions on how to put on a square dance. Fri Dec 29, 5: When he bought a new International, he had to get the 3-point hitch and he never liked that.

The company’s roots lie in the farm equipment developed by Cyrus McCormick, which morphed in the early s into International Harvester when McCormick’s son merged his father’s business with other agricultural machinery manufacturers. Along with agriculture implements and, later, the iconic, Raymond Loewy-designed Farmall tractor, International Harvester got into the truck business, producing a diverse range of medium- and heavy-duty work vehicles.

They also built light-duty pickup trucks from the early s and the Travelall wagon from the s. When the Jeep’s no-nonsense, all-terrain utility stuck a chord with post-war ranchers, fire departments, utility companies and others whose professions didn’t necessarily include paved roads, International Harvester took notice and developed the Scout.

Like vintage Ford Broncos and early Chevy Blazers, Scouts are growing in popularity with enthusiasts and collectors. They’re much more affordable than muscle cars of the same era, while offering distinction that’s sure to be noticed at a car show or cruise event. They’re also pretty easy to work on, although replacement parts aren’t as plentiful as for, say, a ’70 Chevelle SS.
